Art at the Kent '26
The most important opening in Vermont
I met Patty Hudak when she happened upon my woodshop in Brooklyn while looking for an art studio. She wound up renting space down the hall from me, and the rest is history. She never stops making art — our kids are the only thing that have ever successfully competed for her attention. The studio in Brooklyn was for Patty the oil painter, but I’ve watched her assemble installations, draw with many media, create computer art and video graphics, and of course carve wood for the latest passion — over 10 years making mokuhanga, or Japanese wood block prints. The show will contain many diverse examples!
Every year, the Kent’s Corner State Historic Site hosts a show of notable Vermont artists, and this year Patty was invited to the show they’re calling Throughlines. In fact, The piece above was chosen as the poster image for their promotional materials. I am crazy proud of her and the recognition she’s gotten from the Vermont State Curators, a high point in a very successful and busy year.
The show runs from September 11 to October 11, and the opening party is this Saturday September 12, from 3 to 5pm, at Kent’s Corners. You can read all the deets on the site, and of course I hope you’ll stop by many times! But I want to make sure you know you’re invited to the opening, which is quite a scene and an institution in the VT arts community (very casual and normal and VT, if you get my drift.) Not your typical “art opening” though there are refreshments and music.
